It worked on the first try! Students create the first hydrogen engine

A group of bright students at the University of Bath achieved a significant milestone today. These young innovators have succeeded in creating something that even major car manufacturers have yet to offer to consumers. As you know, hydrogen stands out among eco-friendly fuels because it does not emit carbon dioxide during combustion. Using this super clean fuel, the students developed a prototype hydrogen engine. Moreover, this engine was produced just in time for a world where gasoline and diesel vehicles will be banned by 2035.

They started with a modified single-cylinder gasoline engine provided by a sponsoring company. The engine was equipped with a special control unit and hydrogen-specific fuel injectors to adapt it for hydrogen fuel. And what happened? The engine worked on the first try.

Samuel Ray, a student and team leader, said about the project: “Before starting, we read all the research and literature we had, analyzed everything, and tried to understand what we could achieve. Even though we were a small team, discovering what we could do in this project was really exciting.”
